SCIFTesting provides independent acoustic field testing, RF shielding verification, and performance investigations for organizations that operate, build, modify or plan secure facilities. Our work supports government owners, facility security teams, design and construction professionals, and private-sector organizations whose spaces must meet defined technical security requirements.
The appropriate testing program depends on the facility, the governing authority, and the activities conducted inside it. A SCIF, a SAPF, and a security-sensitive conference room are not necessarily governed by the same acceptance criteria.
U.S. military and defense organizations
We support acoustic and RF verification requirements associated with secure facilities across the U.S. Armed Forces and their supporting organizations. Relevant organizations and project teams may include:
- U.S. Army
- U.S. Navy
- U.S. Air Force
- U.S. Marine Corps
- U.S. Space Force
- U.S. Coast Guard
Work may involve installations, commands, laboratories, mission-support buildings, leased spaces, or facilities constructed and operated on behalf of these organizations. Being equipped to support a branch’s requirements does not imply an endorsement, contract award, or past engagement with that branch.
Federal government and intelligence-related facilities
Civilian federal agencies, intelligence-related organizations, and government project teams may need documented performance for secure meeting rooms, compartmented work areas, communications spaces and related boundaries. Requirements should be established by the cognizant authority before acoustic or RF measurements are specified.
We can help project managers define the field-measurement scope, assess construction readiness, investigate deficiencies and produce technical reports suitable for review by the designated authority. Field testing supports—not replaces—government security approval and accreditation processes.
Aerospace and defense contractors
Prime contractors, subcontractors, aerospace manufacturers, defense technology firms, research organizations and systems integrators may operate their own secure rooms or facilities to support government programs. They may also need independent verification during facility construction, expansion, renovation or turnover.
Our technical scope can address installed acoustic isolation, secure-door performance, RF shielding effectiveness where required, and retesting after corrective work. Testing criteria and reporting arrangements are coordinated with the customer and the applicable program security authority.
Organizations with secure conference and collaboration rooms
Not every sensitive conversation takes place in a facility formally designated as a SCIF. Some organizations need conference, boardroom, videoconferencing or collaboration spaces with unusually strong speech privacy or other defined protective measures. Others are planning a room that genuinely requires SCIF- or SAPF-level construction and approval.
Those are different projects. We can assess room-to-room or perimeter acoustic separation, door leakage and flanking paths for a defined privacy objective. If formal SCIF or SAPF accreditation is required, the security authority must establish the applicable requirements and process. Marketing a room as “SCIF-level” does not by itself make it an accredited SCIF.
For conferencing and communications spaces, see conference and VTC testing, acoustic field verification, and SAPF-specific testing considerations.
Architects, engineers, contractors and facility operators
Design firms, general contractors, specialty shielding contractors, secure-door installers and facilities teams also engage independent testing to establish readiness, document as-built performance, identify problem interfaces and verify completed repairs. Clear test boundaries and traceable item-level findings are particularly useful when multiple trades are responsible for the same enclosure.
Existing facilities deserve attention as well. Door seals age, thresholds fall out of adjustment, and cabling or mechanical changes can introduce new transmission paths. See periodic retesting of existing SCIFs for the case for risk-based reassessment, rather than assuming initial performance will remain unchanged indefinitely.
What we measure—and what we do not decide
SCIFTesting is a specialized service of On-Site Acoustic Testing, LLC. We focus on independent physical measurements and defensible technical reporting, including:
- Field acoustic isolation and sound transmission measurements.
- Acoustic investigation of doors, boundaries and unintended paths.
- RF shielding effectiveness testing and diagnostics when required by project criteria.
- Post-construction, post-modification and post-remediation verification.
We do not assign facility classification, determine program eligibility, certify TEMPEST compliance from ordinary RF shielding measurements, or grant SCIF/SAPF accreditation. Acceptance and authorization remain with the responsible officials.
Plan the appropriate testing scope
Projects can be coordinated nationwide and internationally, subject to access, equipment, travel and information-handling requirements. For an initial discussion, identify the type of facility or room, general location, project stage, whether acoustic or RF evidence is needed, and an approximate schedule.
Request testing using unclassified, nonsensitive information only. Do not send controlled floor plans, classified or export-controlled specifications, or protected facility identifiers through the public form.
